Have you ever had a new, unexpected experience and thought to yourself, I need more of this in my life!? Or whispered to yourself, I don’t know what I’m doing here but it just feels right!? Well, after doing a mental check-in as we near the end of the year, I realize how I’ve had more of these moments than I expected.
Like a lot of people, I started out 2019 by making a plan about what I hoped to accomplish. I created a vision board and prayed about what I wanted to achieve this year: get promoted at work, grow my blog and finish my book, just to name a few. These were my top priorities. Little did I know, God had plans beyond what my human mind could imagine.
Not only did I get to do those things (the book is almost done), I also led a group panel discussion at church, corresponded on my first red carpet, experienced my first New York Fashion Week (NYFW) event and have met people I admire who are outside my normal social sphere.
The beauty of each experience was how these were hidden desires that God saw fitting to provide in my life. They all started with me being obedient to the Holy Spirit’s prompting and delighting myself in the Lord so His desires for my life became my own. I was prompted to do things I was actually scared and slightly reluctant to do. Who would watch the videos on my YouTube channel? Who am I to lead a ministry at church? Do I have the time to continue leading a networking group at work?
I did what I felt led to do and God used these avenues to start opening doors and providing new opportunities that I didn’t even think to ask for.
Meeting top influencers of our culture wasn’t on my radar. Moderating a panel at church didn’t even occur to me. Corresponding a red-carpet event in my local city wasn’t even a thought. Attending anything for NYFW never even crossed my mind. And while some of these events may seem like small apples to some, I am forever grateful for every opportunity. Every. Single. One.
I know this is not my doing. I believe God’s mighty hand is working in every area of my life and providing opportunities on an appropriate scale to show me just a glimpse of what He is capable of doing as long as I keep Him first. He’s opening doors and creating exposure that I could never develop on my own. He’s used co-workers, fellow church-goers and friends to provide me with new experiences that help me learn more about what I’m interested in and what else is out there.
I don’t share this to toot my own horn- believe me. This is small beans in the grand scheme of things. I really just want to share what God is doing in my life to help you dream, elevate your faith and build your trust in Him.
Allow God to take you beyond your wildest imagination.
The same God who took Joseph from the prison to the palace, parted the red sea, anointed a shepherd boy to be king and put a harlot in the lineage of Christ is the same God who can help you get the promotion, start the family, provide funding for your business and get you the opportunity of your dreams.
God is not partial. He won’t do something for me and not do it for you. I didn’t even ask for these experiences and He gave them to me. And the year is not even over yet! Imagine what He has in store for you?
Would you allow yourself to dream big about what you want God to do in your life?
If money wasn’t an issue, what would you want to do? What is that hidden desire that you always considered off-limits because those type of things didn’t happen to “people like you”? My friend, those are the gems that God wants to reveal and resurface in your life. Surrender your will to His, stay connected to Him and He’ll allow you to soar on eagle’s wings.
See you up there!
